Description
Finding decodable passages that focus on the phonograms and skills your students need can be so time consuming. These decodable passages are a huge time saver. Students will enjoy reading these high- interest stories while developing reading fluency and comprehension.
Each decodable passage aligns with Step 1 of the Orton-Gillingham-based scope and sequence from The Multisensory Classroom but can be used along with any other reading program or by itself. They provide students with practice in reading new words in connected text, and the comprehension sheets assess student understanding of the story while giving them practice in identifying the new phonics skill that goes along with the story.
Each decodable passage highlights a specific phonogram/skill and builds upon previously learned words so you can move through the scope and sequence with confidence knowing your students are getting multisensory, structured, cumulative instruction.
This Step 1 decodable passage resource includes:
- Step 1 Decodable Passage Cover Page- Designed with the same color scheme as Step 1 of The Multisensory Classroom Scope and Sequence for quick and easy organization of your OG lesson prep materials.
- Table of Contents- Includes the title of each decodable passage, its focus phonogram/skill, and its page number in the resource.
- Common Core Standards- Includes a table of the Common Core K-3 Reading: Foundational Skills standards for each passage and its focus phonogram/skill.
- Decodable Passages and Comprehension Worksheets
- Flexible Passages- There is one passage for each letter (phonogram) in the alphabet (since the whole alphabet is covered in Step 1). Each passage provides students with multiple opportunities to identify and decode a variety of words that begin with the focus letter. Passages also have a few sight words.
- Comprehension Worksheets– Worksheets for each flexible passage assess student reading comprehension and phonics knowledge.
All products in The Multisensory Classroom, including these passages, are designed to follow Orton Gillingham-based instruction and are derived from my Orton Gillingham Academy accredited training and my doctoral dissertation research implementing Orton Gillingham in the classroom.
