This informal reading inventory helps determine the phonics, spelling, and reading abilities of student entering second grade. The inventory takes less than 20 minutes to administer, and it covers the skills necessary for a successful start in second-grade reading.

- Sight word knowledge: Dolch sight words (highest-frequency words from second grade list)
- Orthographic Awareness: spelling words
- Oral reading fluency and comprehension: short story
